Remember the hula hoop craze Norway News

Remember the hula hoop craze in the 1950s and 60s? Well, this time they are back with a new "spin." Weighted, padded hula hoops are a great training tool, strengthening muscles in the hips, torso, and abdomen.

What makes the Innersvingen rings different from regular hula hoops?

Innersvingen rings are large, heavy, and padded with colorful foam rubber. The weight and wavy shape help to tone the muscles in your waist and tummy.

What type of rings are available?

The most popular rings for adults and children. Both the 3-lb and 4-lb rings can be used by adults of any size.

The 3-lb ring may be more appropriate for experienced users, or users under 65kg. (104cm diameter, 1,5 kg)

4-lb ring is slightly smaller and heavier. It is often easier for beginners to learn to use, and is especially recommended for users over 75kg. (102cm diameter, 1,7 kilo)

Hoops for children

The 1.5-lb Acu-Hoop is recommended for children between 18-36kg. (90cm diameter, 730g)

How do you use an Innersvingen hula hoop?

Old-fashioned, lightweight plastic hoops require skill that some people cannot master. Those who have never managed to use a hula hoop before may find that they are rocking and rolling with their Acu-Hoop on their very first try.

1. Stand with your feet about 50cm apart, toes turned slightly out, so that your body feels balanced and stable.

2. Hold the ring parallel to the floor. Practice moving it from side to side with your arms, keeping it level.

3. Spin the ring with a firm, fast motion as you rotate your body, keeping the ring level around your waist.

Still having trouble? You may be moving your hips too much. Imagine twirling a small hoop around your arm - the movement doesn't need to be very big in order to keep the hoop moving. If you can't seem to get the hang of it, don't worry, you will. Wait an hour or two and try again.

IMPORTANT: These rings are so much fun to use that it's hard to stop. But overuse in the first few days can result in muscle soreness and even mild bruising. Use the ring for no more than one or two minutes per day, for the first three or four days, then increase the time as you become more comfortable with the ring. If you overdo it, however, the soreness should go away within a few days of regular use.
